Vanessa Patchett is a photojournalist and filmmaker with a master's degree in visual journalism from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and a background in anthropology and fine arts. 

While in graduate school, Vanessa was a Roy H. Park Fellow and created content for award-winning projects Reframing Mexico, Finding the Uwharries, 100 Gallons, Port City Stories, and What Matters To Us.  These projects collectively garnered awards at SXSW Interactive, College Photographer of the Year, and Horizon Interactive Awards to name a few.

Vanessa's work has been published in national and local publications, including The Washington Post, The Huffington Post, Vice Magazine, Turnstyle, and Brand Magazine.  She has also served as a story coach at the The University of North Carolina's Carolina Photojournalism Workshop - 2013, Heart of the High Country, and at The University of Oregon's Portland Advanced Multimedia Storytelling Workshop, 2014 and 2015.   

Since joining to Second Story, Vanessa has created original works for diverse clients, from museums to retail, including AIGA, the National Center for Civil and Human Rights in Atlanta, and Hermès Beverly Hills.  

When she's not out in search of adventure, Vanessa currently finds her home in Portland, Oregon.
